Joanna Newsom - “Peach, Plum, Pear”

Lyrics, melody, this song is just wonderful. And the album version is incredible with harpsichord and children’s chorus.

J. Tillman - “My Proud Mountains” (Townes Van Zandt Cover)

Exhausted and happy after a long week of family and friends, a love ballad to home is feeling really good on Sunday night.

J Tillman does a wonderful job with this song. The last two verses are some of my favorite from Townes.

I made me some friends, Lord,
that I won’t soon forget
Some are down under
and some are rambling yet
but as for me
I’m headed for home
back to high Colorado
never more for to roam
So friends, when my time comes
as surely it will
you just carry my body
out to some lonesome hill
and lay me down easy
where the cool rivers run
with only my mountains
between me and the sun

Crazy Heart

I am very much looking forward to seeing this movie and hoping it plays somewhere around here. The trailer song, “The Weary Kind”, was co-written by Ryan Bingham and T Bone Burnett and performed by Bingham. Sounds like the film is full of original music written by Burnett.

Balmorhea - “Baleen Morning” (w/ siblings Peter and Heather Broderick)

Balmorhea never ceases to make me feel great. I love this band, I particularly love this song, and I have a big crush on Heather Broderick. Cellists, man… cellists…

Bellewoods - “At Home in the Dirt” off of Bellewoods

Bellewoods recently released their debut album. I started following this band’s updates on Myspace (that’ll give you an idea of how long I’ve been waiting for this album) and was thrilled to finally find it for purchase online.

At Home in the Dirt is the opening track and the album stays that good straight through the final notes.

Enjoy!

Pick up the new album + 1 compilation mp3 on Amazon and iTunes.
